The inaugrial TAOM Helsinki International Snooker Cup invites international stars to Finland

The Helsinki House of Culture (Kulttuuritalo) will host the first ever TAOM Helsinki International Snooker Cup on Saturday 25th May and Sunday 26th May 2024. The upcoming event is an international snooker tournament in which eight world class players will compete against one another. Participants in Finland’s first professional snooker tournament include the reigning world champion and second in world rankings, Luca Brecel (BE), seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry (UK), and Judd Trump (UK), who is currently third on the world rankings list and also the 2019 world champion. The overall prize money will total 150,000 euros. Tickets for individual matches as well as VIP passes for individual matches will be released. All ticket sales will start on Thursday 9 November at 10 am (EET / UTC +2).

Helsinki is set to turn into the world’s snooker capital in late May when the first ever TAOM Helsinki International Snooker Cup will be hosted at the Helsinki House of Culture. The international snooker tournament will include seven matches in which eight of the world’s top snooker professionals will meet. The overall prize money is 150,000 euros. The world’s snooker royalty will come together in Helsinki.

The English player Judd Trump (The Ace) is praised as one of the most entertaining snooker players to watch. Trump picked up the world champion title in 2019, and currently holds 25 tournament wins.

The reigning world champion Luca Brecel (The Belgian Bullet) plays a game of attack, speed, and phenomenal precision. Hailing from Belgium, Brecel is the first player from Continental Europe to win the world championship.

Currently seventh in the world rankings, Kyren Wilson (The Warrior) is hungry for the win and a relentless methodical player.

The 2015 world champion, Stuart Bingham (Ball-Run) is one of the tournament’s most hard-working players: his distinct cue action is the result of a lot of time spent at the table. And when Bingham is ready to go, the results follow. A winner of the esteemed invitational snooker tournament Masters, Bingham is known to put on a show that can shake up even the most seasoned opponent.

The Welsh break builder Ryan Day (Dynamite) has won four ranking titles throughout his career and built more than 400 tournament centuries. Always a threat, Day is one of the odds-on favourites in the tournament.

A man and a legend, the English player Jimmy White (The Whirlwind) is a left-handed, natural talent snooker star who plays an aggressive game and has a natural touch with the ball – a true inspiration for countless young snooker players around the world. Loved by the audience, White is a heartfelt showman and a joy to watch.

–  The popularity of snooker has grown steadily in Finland, and it is starting to be one of the most watched sports on TV. Fanned by this acclaim, some exhibition matches have been hosted in Finland in the past, with a few of the world’s top players facing each other, but now we get to enjoy a true tournament atmosphere where many top talents compete for serious prize money in Finland’s first international professional snooker cup. We wish everyone a warm welcome, says Jussi Tyrkkö from Billiard Promotions Finland, the organisation co-hosting the event together with the events agency Gramopop. Tyrkkö’s experience in the world of professional snooker spans many years. He has picked up several Finnish champion titles from various cue sports, and has worked for 20 years as a billiards entrepreneur.
